VeriCool Fingertip Recognition

The VeriCool school attendance system uses cutting edge technology to identify individual students and teachers. The technique used is called fingertip recognition, and it involves capturing the image of the fingertip and then using sophisticated software to encrypt and compare the fingertip data.

By using the fingertip information stored within the VeriCool database, users of the system are quickly and accurately identified in under a second.

Fingertip Scanners

The fingertip scanners themselves use a harmless infrared light to illuminate the end of the finger. The image of the fingertip is then captured by a process similar to that of when a photograph is taken.

This image is then encrypted into a sequence of letters and numbers using a special algorithm. If the fingertip has previously been scanned and stored into the VeriCool database, a match will be found and the fingertip recognition process will be complete.

If no match is found, then the VeriCool system will judge that this particular student or teacher is not a registered member of the school, and therefore the attendance attempt will be rejected.

Your Fingertip

Your fingertip is made up of hundreds of ridges and furrows, and this is what gives you your unique identity. Each scan of your fingertip by a VeriCool fingertip scanner can capture up to 120 individual points on your finger.

Although the image of your fingertip will be stored in your school's VeriCool database, the encryption techniques used mean that it is impossible for this information to be "reverse engineered" and turned back into the image of your fingertip.

Access to such sensitive data can only be accessed by a data protector and possibly a few teachers. Under the Data Protection Act schools must dispose of the data using professional data cleansing companies once the child has left or if it no longer of use.
